Salah

“May Salah guide our swords in glorious battle, our pens in law making and our hearts in every action we take.” – Closing words of a sermon in the Church of Salah.

Names: Salah Al’ Din, The Righteous, Lord of Glorious Battle, Lord God. Followers: Patron God of the Myrmidons and the Myrmidon Empire. Also among his followers are Warriors, Knights and Conscripts before battle and anyone who feels they are fighting a righteous war against evil and tyranny. Sphere of Influence: Courage, Destruction, Good, Nobility, Inquisition, Order (Law), Pride, Strength and War. Symbol: A royal blue shield with a grey strip running down the center lined with Crimson Red. A hand wrapped in a white ribbon holds a bastard sword high. Alignment of Clergy: LG, LN and on occasion LE (Although this is very rare), Favored Weapon: Bastard Sword

Salah is worshiped on every continent of Nalmorah for it is believed he controls the fate of all who step onto the battlefield. Salah does not care for who or what reasons you do battle but that you do battle with honor and valor. If you die in battle while fighting with honor and valor Salah will welcome your spirit to Paradise.

Salah’s clergy is one of the few among the Gods that considers most of it’s clergy a member of the Church’s militia. All Priests of Salah are trained in the use of Martial Weapons, Armor and Warfare. In times of war a State that recognizes the Church of Salah as a State Religion can expect Salah’s Priests to take arms up against the State’s enemies in times of War. Ironically this has led to Priests of Salah to fight against Priests of Salah- Each on the side of an opposing King- Each believing their cause is just.

The Church of Salah holds loyalty and order just below the tenets of honor and valor. The structure of the Church’s Hierarchy has been perfected over time and is like a well oiled military. At the top is the Exarch who’s pen seals all Canon laws and who’s final word ends any disputes among the leaders of the Church. The Exarch is choosen from amongst the Viscounts, often the ArchViscount, the choice of the next Exarch is believed to be guided by Salah himself. Whispering into the minds of the Viscounts which among them is truly worthy of the position.

Two notable differences in the choice of the Exarch. The first being in 1059 SA when Exarch Sergei Lazar Kusovlfa XV died suddenly it was not ArchViscount Tatyana Zakarova who succeed him, nor was it any of the Viscounts. It was Bishop Nika Pavel Gurevich II who was named Exarch. The second was in 12 AC when there was the schism in the Church. The Salah faithful Myrmidons denounced any other Gods but Salah. The Viscounts on the other continents including ArchViscount Helene Greta Gerstan of Asis disagreed with Exarch Dorofey Artur Orlov’s new logic. The non-Mymidian Viscounts sided with ArchViscount Helene Greta Gerstan and named her Exarch. The Myrmidons and Exarch Dorofey Artur Orlov refused this decree and officially separated creating what they call The True Church of Salah. From this point on there have been two Exarchs. Neither Church recognizes the Exarch from the other.

The Ordained

Most of Salah’s faithful are lay members; Men and Women to pray to Salah as a Patron God or say a prayer in his name just before charging into combat. There are some lay Men and Women who have taken oaths to uphold the word of Salah; Warrior Monks and Knight Orders that live their lives in his service.

Ordained members of the church give their entire lives to the teachings of Salah; Be it Priest giving sermon every week at a local church, Paladin leading the charge against evil or Cleric wondering with aid, advice and sword if need be. To become Ordain in the Church of Salah one must enter a Seminary school, the training takes three years. During their time in Seminary school students learn the tenants of Salah, proper ways to perform rights such as mass, and how to channel Salah’s energies (If he finds you so worthy). Once one graduates from Seminary school he or she is a full member of the Church of Salah; graduation involves rights performed Ordaining the graduates as Priests and Priestess. After that is 6 months of required Martial training.

After completing the Martial Training Priests and Priestess may begin their work, often being assigned to a Church right away, or may continue their training. Those wish to join the Church’s Militia continue their Martial Training. Those who desire to be Paladin; Holy Warriors; go to an intense six year training program. Many do not complete the training, those who do become Paladins are conscripted into the Church’s Militia for at least four years of service. Others train to be Clerics; A balance of Priest and Warrior; the training to be Cleric lasts four years and is a mix of Martial training and focusing the power’s of Salah. Those who become Clerics are assigned tasks to perform all over the world for at least two years of Service.

Other Priests and Priestess train in Canon Law, Exorcism Rights, Diplomacy and various Sciences. Most of the training in these various studies take from two to four years. Once the Priest or Priestess completes their training they often work within the church in their various focuses of studies. This training time maybe before or after continued Martial Training. Most Ordain members of the Church of Bishop or higher standing have taken on more training beyond Seminary School.

Priests and Priestess of Salah are expected to live life with valor, loyalty and righteousness. They are allowed to marry before or after Ordainment and to have children. Priests and Priestess are allowed to own property and they take no vow of poverty, but over indulgence is looked at as a weakness. All members of the Church of Salah are required to test their Martial Skills every few years. Failure is a deep dishonor and thus most Ordain Members keep up with their sword play.
